Focus on Marriage
We are mid-way through the Focus on Marriage simulcast and I can’t get my mind off the first speaker. Francis Chan (FC) took some thoughts from 1 Cor. 7 saying, if you want to have a good marriage then start living like you aren’t married. Say What??? You can take a look at the scriptures yourself, but the basic idea is – when you are married you are concerned about your spouse and all the stuff of life, but when you are single, you can focus on your relationship with God and fulfilling HIS mission. We all want to meet God and hear the words, “well done my good and faithful servant,” and those words are only reserved for those who served God’s Mission. FC wanted us to see the big picture of marriage, before we looked at the dos and don’ts. The reality is, we could have a “happy” marriage by the world’s standards and stand before God having missed it all together ….OR…. as married people we can live for God first (with the single-mindedness of a single-person) and then stand before God having complemented each other in the pursuit of HIM. Thanks FC for pointing us in the right direction!
